About the Zine

We are a free BG3 fanzine, created by fans of the game with the following missions:

  • Celebrate Virtual Photography & Modding as creative mediums.

  • Showcase the diverse talents of the BG3 fandom's Virtual Photographers & Modders. Shine the light on the time, effort and talent it takes for VPers & Modders to produce the work they do.

  • Craft a creative platform for BG3 VPers & modders, where everyone can be free to realise their artistic visions, learn and have fun.

  • Introduce these mediums to the rest of the fandom - to encourage & inspire those who have never done VP or modding to give it a try.

  • Portfolio links provided in applications must be set to publicly viewed/shared.

  • All images featured in your application must be your own work.

  • Anything NSFW must be labelled appropriately.

  • Discord will be used as the main mode of communication - you must be willing to use discord, as important zine announcements and check-ins will take place in our discord server.

  • We welcome submissions from applicants of all races, genders, and sexualities. This includes creators from the LGBTQIA+ community, creators with disabilities and POC creators.

General Guidelines

  • All work featured in the zine must be unique work created by you.

  • Use of AI is strictly prohibited.

  • No dead dove content. Even though the Zine has a NSFW section, unfortunately we cannot feature dead dove content. This was decided by the public interest check.

  • No hateful content. We will not tolerate hateful content against any races, genders, sexualities, or disabilities.

VP Artist Guidelines

  • All general guidelines apply.

  • What we are looking for:
    - Use of free camera: we are looking for images taken by a free camera. This can be the in-game photo mode and/or Otis Cam.
    - Artistic expression: the conscious use of composition, lighting, values & colours in your photos. We want to see the world of BG3 through your creative lenses.
    - Image quality: images should preferably be of high quality (4K & 300 dpi) in case the zine will be printed (for leisure - the official zine will be digital only).
    - A story: narrative is what makes an image compelling. Tell us the story you want to, through your photography.

  • You can use mods in your photos. We will require a mod list along side your images submission. Server exclusive mods will require permission from the server owner to be featured in the zine. Commissioned mods are accepted with proper credits.

Modder Guidelines

  • All general guidelines apply.

  • Nexus & Patreon mods are welcome.

  • Patreon/Paywalled mods if using pre-existing assets must be early access/not indefinitely Patreon exclusive. If indefinite and it uses pre-existing assets (assets in base game BG3) cannot be considered due to legal reasons. Custom assets (assets made by scratch) and paywalled are ok. Server exclusive mods are ok.

  • Submitted Mods will be checked using BG3MM to confirm no crashes and to check mod author name. Submitted mods MUST use your preferred name and/or username as mod author.

  • Modders considered will be those whose mods are polished. What we are looking for:
    - Cosmetics should not have excessive clippings.
    - Mods should not crash the game.
    - Mods should not have any egregious bugs that can impact the end-user negatively.
    - Mods submitted MUST BE Patch 8 Compatible.

  • If you would like to debut a NEW mod for this zine and showcase it, you must agree to get it done per the schedule. Buggy/rushed mods will not be considered and you will be asked to provide a FINISHED mod for the zine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

THE ZINE

Q: Is this zine free or for charity?
A: The zine is completely free. No payment or donation to charity will be required to download the zine when it’s published. We will, however, suggest some charities you could donate to, and we’ll be happy if you choose to do so.
Q: Will the zine be digital or physical?
A: The zine will be a digital release and it will be available to download as a free PDF-file.
Q: Does the zine have a theme?
A: Unlike the traditional fanzine, we don’t have a topical theme. Our theme is to celebrate VP and Modding as creative mediums. This means as long as your work is a product of VP or Modding and meets our guidelines, you’re free to create whatever you desire.
Q: Is NSFW allowed?
A: Yes, the zine will have a NSFW section. However, we do not allow dead dove content (this is the result from our public interest check). Because of this and the nature of the game, we will require all applicants to be over the age of 18.
Q: What can I expect from the zine?
A: Expect to see beautiful works of virtual photography & modding from creatives in the fandom, getting to know their inspirations & vision through their contributor profiles. There will also be tutorials on how to get started with VP & Modding, for those who’d like to get into these mediums. There will be more as we’re still working out the details!
Q: How many photos will I need to submit?
A: At the moment, we are expecting 6-8 photos per contributor.
Q: Can I apply as both VP artist & modder?
A: Yes! You can fill in both the VP contributor & Modding contributor forms when you apply.
Q: Can I be an anonymous contributor?
A: We require all our contributors to publish their handles when featured in the zine, therefore, we cannot accept anonymous contributors. This is because we would like to properly credit all the talents involved.
Q: Anything else you’d like us to know?
A: Inclusivity is important to us. We welcome applications from creators of all races, genders, and sexualities. This includes creators from the LGBTQIA+ community, creators with disabilities and POC creators.

Virtual Photography Section

Q: What’s the theme?
A: There are no restrictions on topic & theme as long as they meet our general guidelines. This is a metaphorical portrait of you as a Virtual Photographer: your story and your artistic vision.
Q: What are you looking for in my VP?
A: Please refer to the VP Artist Guidelines in the "Guidelines" tab.
Q: What kinds of VP can I submit?
A: There are no limits. We welcome all categories: portraits (solo or couple), storytelling, action, environment, detail and creative (using mixed media). You can have VP from multiple categories in your submission (but for cohesion, we suggest 3 max)
Q: Can I submit my existing VP work?
A: We will have a “profile” section for each contributor, where you can feature some favourite works you’ve done. However, the main focus will be on the original work you produce for the zine.
Q: Which characters & ships are allowed?
A: We don’t have any restrictions on the characters and ships featured in your work, as long as the subject matter meets our guidelines. OCs, companions and NPCs - we’d love to see them all.
Q: Do I need to credit the mods I use in my photos?
A: Yes, you will need to provide us with a mod list in your final submission. We would like to give modders the credit they deserve.
Q: Can I use exclusive mods in my VP?
A: Yes, as long as you can provide written permission from the mod owner, or server owner if the mod is discord server exclusive.

Modding Section

Q: What exactly do I get to do as a modder contributor?
A: You can feature your favourite mods that you’ve done. Unlike the VP section, you’re not expected to produce new work for the zine (unless you want to). We will however need high-quality images of your mod to showcase in the zine.
Q: Can I use images others have taken of my mod?
A: Absolutely, as long as you can provide written permission from the VPer to be featured in the zine. We will credit them.
Q: How many mods are we allowed to showcase?
A: At the moment it will be up to 3-4 mods.
Q: Am I expected to make a new mod for this zine?
A: This is entirely optional. We would love it if you decide to create a new mod for the zine, but you can choose to just have your existing work featured.
Q: My mods are behind a paywall on patreon, will they be considered?
A: Yes, with some things to consider: if using pre-existing BG3 assets in your mod, the paywalled content has to be EA (so not indefinitely paywalled). If it's custom-made assets, indefinitely paywalled mods are ok.
Q: Can I showcase my own server exclusive mods?
A: Yes, as long as you can provide written permission from the server owner if the mod is discord server exclusive.
Q: I worked with another modder in collaboration, can I showcase our mod together even if they aren't part of the zine?
A: Yes, as long as you can provide written permission from the modder, agreeing to feature the mod in the zine and be credited.
